Standing Order 21-11, following a temporary period of district-wide suspension June 14-18, 2021, inclusive, at the direction of the Court, is reinstated effective on and after June 19, 2021. That Order, which is applicable district-wide, establishes a modified temporary protocol for filings by unrepresented (pro se) persons who should read the Order prior to filing voluntary petitions and other documents with the Court (June 18, 2021, Update).

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 21-10, effective Monday, June 14, 2021, the Bankruptcy Clerk’s Office public areas are reopening at each courthouse location.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT- NORFOLK COURTHOUSE RE-OPENING

The Walter E. Hoffman U.S. Courthouse in Norfolk reopened on Monday, June 21, 2021.  Please note that only one public elevator is available in conjunction with continuing water damage remediation efforts.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

Closure of Court on June 18, 2021, in Recognition of Juneteenth National Independence day, June 19, as a Legal Public Holiday

Federal law establishes public holidays for Federal employees.  [5 U.S.C. § 6103(a)].  These statutory holidays are celebrated through closure of the United States Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia. On June 17, 2021, the President signed a bill establishing a new federal holiday, “Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19” to be celebrated each year in observance of the anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States. As June 19, 2021, falls on a Saturday, federal agencies will be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. In observance of the federal holiday, the Courts in the Eastern District of Virginia will similarly be closed on Friday, June 18, 2021. (Order of Closure).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Hoffman U.S. Courthouse in Norfolk will be closed the week of June 14, 2021 through June 18, 2021. Remote proceedings and hearings will take place as originally scheduled.
