Notice: Norfolk and Newport News Divisions’ Procedures on Entry of Default and Default Judgment-Effective March 1, 2018

Effective immediately in the Norfolk and Newport News Divisions, a plaintiff seeking entry of a default judgment pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 55, as incorporated into the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure by Rule 7055, must file a Motion for Entry of Default with the Clerk of this Court in compliance with Local Bankruptcy Rule 7055-1. After securing entry of default, the plaintiff may then file a Motion for Default Judgment, which shall also comply with Local Bankruptcy Rule 7055-1. The Court will issue an order denying a Motion for Default Judgment filed prior to the entry of default.

Santoro on Tuesday, January 9, 2018: if the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division, opens without delay on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, all hearings scheduled before the Honorable Frank J. Santoro will be convened as scheduled; if the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division, has a delayed opening on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, all hearings scheduled before the Honorable Frank J. Santoro will be convened at 11:00 a.m.; and if the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division, is closed on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, all hearings scheduled before the Honorable Frank J. Santoro will be rescheduled.

Due to inclement weather, all hearings scheduled before the Honorable Stephen C. St. John, Chief Judge on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Norfolk Division have been rescheduled to January 11, 2018 at the same time as originally scheduled.
